Radio Communications Revised - wireless communications devices required - Brief Article
By mobile | January 29, 2008
FRA now requires radios or wireless communications devices like cellular phones or data radio terminals for many classifications of railroad operations and for roadway workers including signal maintainers and track crews. Large roads must equip trains with working radios and redundant wireless communications devices in each occupied controlling locomotive.
For small roads, equipment requirements are determined by such factors as whether a train transports passengers or hazmat, and if it engages in joint operations with a large railroad or operates above a certain speed. For small roads and roadway workers, equipment standards and implementation periods vary according to railroad size.
