Monarch Communications deploys Wireless DSL system in Nigeria

The initial deployment, which began in late 2001, focused on sites in the Lagos area and supported 8,000 lines of capacity. With the infrastructure in place, the initial subscriber connections are underway with further expansion planned throughout 2002.
Monarch Communications, based in Lagos, recently acquired a 3.5 GHz license to supply telephony services nationwide. The agreement includes both infrastructure and customer subscriber terminals, and Airspan will also be offering training in both base station and customer subscriber terminal installation and commissioning.
Monarch Communications is a Nigerian Private Telecommunications Operator (PTO) owned by Lagos-based Industrial & General Insurance Company, Ltd. Monarch recently obtained a license to provide telephony and data services throughout Nigeria. Monarch will be starting its operations in the second quarter of 2002. The company has recently added a television broadcasting license to its portfolio of licenses. -(World IT Report)
